How the builder works

Select any player to give it a name and a number; pressing Enter saves and moves on to the next player, so a whole starting eleven types in under a minute. Drag with a mouse or a finger to move anyone anywhere on the pitch, and the formation chips reflow every player you have not placed by hand, so your own positioning survives a change of shape.

If the shape you want is not a chip, type it. The free box accepts any football formation whose lines add up to ten outfielders, 4-1-4-1, 3-4-2-1, whatever your Sunday league invents, and it says plainly when a shape does not add up. The kit swatches recolor the squad, and the numbers flip between light and dark so they stay readable on any kit. Arrow keys nudge the selected player when a spot needs fine tuning.

Compare two formations side by side

Picking a shape from the Compare row puts a second board next to the live one, so you can see what actually moves between a 4-3-3 and a 4-4-2 rather than switching back and forth and trying to hold the first one in your head. The left board is the live one and the only one you can drag; the right is a reference, drawn from the same shape rule, and names are left off both so the shapes are what you are looking at. This is the formation maker the roadmap promised. It is part of the builder rather than a page of its own, because a formation creator and a lineup builder are the same tool with the same pitch, and splitting them would have meant writing the same page twice.

Print a team sheet from your squad

Download Team sheet PDF and the squad comes out as a portrait list rather than a pitch: order number, name, jersey and position down an A4 page, the starting eleven first and substitutes under their own heading. Positions come from the shape on the board, so a 4-3-3 lists four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards without anyone typing them.

It holds eighteen, which is a full matchday squad with seven on the bench. Use it for the referee, the noticeboard or the away dugout, and use the board export when what you want is the picture. Blank sheets to fill in by hand are on the soccer lineup template page.

Share a lineup with a link

Copy link turns the whole board into a web address: the link is the save file. Send it to the group chat and every position, name, number and kit arrives exactly as you left it, because the lineup travels inside the link instead of sitting on a server. Bookmark the link and next week's edit starts where you stopped. There is no account behind this, so there is also nothing to expire, reset or forget.

Export as a PDF to print, or a PNG to post

Two downloads, one board. Download PDF writes a real vector file: the pitch is lines and the names are text, not a photograph of them, so it stays sharp at any zoom and prints true on any paper, which is what a team sheet pinned in a dressing room needs. Download PNG draws the same board as an image at high resolution, which is what a group chat or a timeline wants. Both carry your team name across the top, the formation in the corner, and one small lineupdesk.com line outside the pitch instead of a watermark across it, and both are named after your team so matchday folders stay tidy.

Both come out on the dark board by default, which is how it looks here. Switch the background to white before you download and you get the same board in print ink instead: white pitch, dark markings, and the kit still its own colour rather than flattened to grey, because the kit is which team this is. The keeper stays the opposite tone of the ten in front of them, as on screen. That is the one to print, and it is a good deal kinder to a toner cartridge than a near-black sheet of A4.

How do I share a lineup?

Press Copy link. The whole board, formation, names, numbers and kit, is encoded into the address itself, so the link is the save file and anyone who opens it sees your exact lineup. There is no server copy to expire and nothing to sign into.

Which formations are included?

Chips for 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3 and 5-3-2, plus a free box that accepts any shape with lines of one to six players adding up to ten, like 4-1-4-1 or 3-4-2-1. Switching shapes keeps your names and numbers.

Can I print the lineup?

Yes. Download PDF gives you a vector file sized for A4 landscape, so it prints at full size without going soft, and it scales to whatever paper you feed it. The PDF uses the standard Helvetica alphabet, so a name written with letters outside it prints without its accents and the page tells you which name that was; the PNG keeps every accent.

Can I put the lineup on my club website?

Yes. Copy embed code gives you a short snippet: an iframe that shows this exact board read-only, plus a one-line credit that links back here. Paste it into any page that accepts HTML, a club site, a blog or a league page. The lineup travels inside the snippet the same way it travels inside the share link, so nothing is stored on a server.

Can I make a 7v7 or 9v9 team sheet?

Not yet. Every shape on this board adds up to eleven: a keeper and ten outfield players in lines of one to six. Small-sided boards for 5-a-side, 7v7 and 9v9 are not built, and the free box says so rather than drawing a shape it cannot check. If it is the shapes you are after rather than the sheet, 7v7 soccer formations and 5v5 and futsal formations cover them, and the soccer tactics board will draw any number of players.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. The board, the image and the share link are all made in your browser. Your lineup leaves your machine only when you send the link or the image to someone yourself.
