Vixl is a local-first, bring-your-own-key alternative to Cursor, Antigravity, and VS Code agents. There is no Vixl account and no Vixl subscription.

Use any catalog provider or a local host. Four chat modes, durable plans, MCP, and a workbench. In a worked example, planning once and running implementation on a cheaper sub-agent costs about 70% less than one long full-price chat.

• Minimal system prompt. Each turn is a short workspace identity, the mode skill, and catalogs of names. Context
• Progressive discovery. The agent loads a full MCP schema or skill body when it needs one. Context
• Planning. Plan mode writes a PLAN.md you keep. Build implements it in one agent run. Orchestrate hands each todo to a sub-agent. Plans
• Built-in editor. A Monaco editor with language servers sits beside the chat, with the file tree in the same window. Workbench
• SSH. Add a remote folder over OpenSSH. The editor, the terminal, and the agent tools for that project run on the host.
