Search

  • Ctrl/Cmd+K understands several words (each must match somewhere in the item), "exact phrases", * and ? wildcards, and -word to leave things out. Results show the field that matched and highlight every word.
  • Areas can be found by name.
  • Links to tasks inside notes are searched and shown as their labels, not as raw links.

Tasks

  • Any duration: the duration menu goes up to 4 hours, and "Custom…" takes things like 22, 1:30, 90m or 1.5h. A new End field sets the duration from an end time (an end past midnight is marked "+1").
  • The clock picker sets any minute: drag on the minute face, use the Up and Down arrow keys, or tap the keyboard button and type 4:53 PM, 16:53 or 453p.
  • Task threads: when three or more tasks link to each other, "Linked from" shows the whole chain in date order, with a count of how many are still open.
  • "Go to task" works from the Project Planner and from the Edit Task form ("Save and go to task").
  • Rename is in the right-click task menu everywhere. The menu also opens on project card rows, Bucket List items and all-day cards. Double-clicking a title renames it, and double-clicking the card opens the editor.
  • Tags work in any script (#rückrufe no longer shows as #r), and picking a suggestion no longer garbles the title when you save.

Reminders

  • Lead times of 30 minutes and 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 hours. Early reminders ("Starts in 2h") have no snooze button. A 15-minute reminder for a task just after midnight now fires.

Tags and the Inbox

  • "Manage tags…" now sits at the top of the tag filter, and pressing # opens the Tag manager from anywhere.
  • The Inbox filter groups projects by area and goal. Tapping an area or goal selects all of its projects, and every section can be folded.

Goals & Projects

  • Restoring an archived project (or goal) brings back exactly the tasks the archive hid or moved out. The Archived list groups projects by goal, and you can open an archived project to see what it held before restoring it.
  • The Day Dial's complication picker lists projects grouped by goal.

Notes

  • Leaving the editor shows the note formatted.
  • Markdown tables and strikethrough are supported.

GLANCE

  • When every routine for today is done, the row stays as "Routines ✓ All done for today" so the Routines window is still one tap away.

Sync

  • WebDAV/folder sync: an edit made while a sync is running (checking off a task, saving a note) is no longer undone when the sync finishes.
  • GLANCEvault Pro: tick it in the GLANCEvault card, paste your account key, and the device signs itself in. Intents are switched on with it.
  • Household members now sync over GLANCEvault and are shared with lastGLANCE and lifeGLANCE. "Sync now" runs GLANCEvault. iCloud no longer carries the household list, because it can't reach other people's Apple IDs.

Obsidian

  • dayGLANCE Bridge 1.0.1 is listed in Obsidian's community plugins. Install it from Settings → Community plugins.

Other fixes

  • Month view: the bottom row is no longer clipped on some tablets.
  • Phone browsers: the "rotate to portrait" screen no longer appears while you type.
  • Security updates to dependencies.

GLANCElauncher for Android

  • This version of dayGLANCE includes several changes in preparation for the launch of a brand new Android launcher I've been working on. It's at the point where I'm looking for a limited number of testers (ideally with a broad range of devices). The launcher is well tested on my Samsung phone and tablet but could use some time on Pixels and other Android phones.
  • GLANCElauncher works with dayGLANCE and lastGLANCE installed and puts your planner, chores and people at your fingertips without even opening the apps. It also has the features you would expect from an Android launcher, including gestures, an app drawer, Sesame-style search and voice commands.
  • If you are interested, please email me at support@glance-apps.com, including the type of Android device(s) you will be testing it on. This testing is not through Google Play, you will need to sideload the launcher to participate. All I ask is that you provide feedback regarding your experience, so I can get the launcher ready for release.
  • GLANCElauncher is and always will be a free app to enhance your dayGLANCE (and lastGLANCE) experience!
  • The launcher will be ready for testing in a day or two.

Goals & Projects

  • Projects can have a target date, like goals. It shows on the project card, in the day summary, in the weekly review's "Due this week", on the Goals tab badge, and on the Android and iOS Project widgets. Thanks @youli42.
  • On the Goals tab, "+" asks whether to add a project to the goal on screen or a new goal.
  • Project Planner: rename the selected task in place in the notes sidebar, drag the sidebar wider or narrower, and right-click a task for its menu.
  • A project or goal without a linked note can create one in Obsidian from its note row.
  • Ctrl/Cmd+K search finds goals, projects and areas, and opens above the Project Planner.
  • The Refocus pill no longer floats over Goals & Projects.

Tasks

  • Tag manager: "Manage tags…" at the foot of the tag filter lists every tag with its tasks, and renames, merges or removes a tag across every task.
  • Link tasks from notes: "Copy link" in a task's menu, type @@ in notes to pick a task, and backlinks show the tasks that link to this one. A note that is only a task link opens that task.
  • Subtasks can be reordered: drag the grip, long-press it on touch, or focus it and press Up/Down.
  • Tasks record when they were created, and show their created and completed dates. Tasks from before this update have no creation date.
  • Double-click a card on the DAY or MULTI timeline to open its editor.
  • Deadlines belong to Inbox tasks, and the dead ends around them are fixed: a deadline card on SCHED opens its task, and scheduling a task from the editor drops its deadline and priority, as every other way of scheduling does. Thanks @youli42.
  • Deleting a project, goal or member clears the references to it, and a saved Inbox filter that names something deleted no longer hides your tasks. Thanks @youli42.
  • Postpone works on all-day tasks created by lastGLANCE and other intents.

Large libraries and storage

  • The Inbox stays quick with thousands of tasks.
  • Saving writes only what changed, so edits no longer slow down as your data grows.
  • Daily notes move from local storage to the device's database, freeing most of the space they took.
  • The Recycle Bin can empty itself after 7, 30 or 90 days (Settings → General → Inbox). New installs start at 30 days; existing ones start off.
  • Storage Breakdown forecasts when local storage will fill, and a warning appears at most once a week when it is close.
  • A full store no longer crashes the app, and data that fails to load is no longer saved over with an empty copy.
  • Auto-backup skips a backup when nothing changed, and lists backups without loading each one.
  • Thanks @youli42 for the reports behind all of these.

Sync

  • Editing one occurrence of a recurring task (move, Postpone, Skip, Delete, snooze) on two devices keeps both edits instead of one undoing the other.
  • File sync skips a cycle's work when nothing changed. A file too large for the server now says so, and uploads wait before retrying while downloads continue. Thanks @youli42.
  • Self-hosted Docker: uploads over 1 MB no longer fail, and large files with non-Latin text arrive intact.

Calendars

  • Device calendars can all be hidden in Settings (Android). Thanks @andrewkolda.
  • Calendar feeds show recurring events as the server defines them, including monthly on the 31st and "fifth Friday" rules.
  • CalDAV tasks: completing a monthly or yearly recurring task moves it to its real next occurrence.

JOBO

  • Today's Check offers "Skip this occurrence" for a recurring task you didn't start. Thanks Lcub3d for the design (#2057).
  • Completing a recurring task now ends the Focus session it belongs to.

Phones

  • Android: the keyboard no longer covers what you're typing in the Project Planner, the task editor, the goal and project forms, a project card's "Add task", task notes and subtasks, the Bucket List, Routines in Settings, and a new JOBO Do.

Other fixes and improvements

  • Desktop: the summary pills along the bottom fold into a caret by the hour gutter, so they no longer cover tasks. Thanks @wjzijderveld.
  • GLANCEahead shows the date in its heading.
  • Bucket List: the notes editor opens at the note's full height.
  • Desktop: Electron security update.

@github-actions github-actions released this 16 Oct 03:01

A new Settings panel

  • Settings is organised into topics: General, Appearance, Features, AI Features, Sync, Integrations, Notifications, Backup & Restore, and About & Help.
  • On desktop, the topics sit on the left and one page shows at a time. The header stays in place with a Close button, and the window uses more of a large screen.
  • On phones, the Settings tab opens the same pages. The nine quick tiles are unchanged.
  • Each page opens at its top, and going back returns you to where you were in the list.
  • Search: type in the box above the topics to jump to any setting, even one inside a collapsed card.
  • Settings opens where you need it. These take you straight to the setting that explains them:
    • a red sync or Obsidian dot in the header;
    • the MCP status window;
    • the Obsidian error message;
    • the calendar button when no calendars are set up.
  • A failed sync marks the Sync topic with a red dot.
  • Notifications and Backup & Restore have moved into Settings.
  • About & Help has the version, updates, help and legal links, the Getting Started checklist switch, and how much local storage dayGLANCE uses. On phones it replaces the old Help & Feedback screen.
  • Theme: choose Light, Dark or System. System follows your device. The header button still switches between light and dark in one click.
  • Sync and Features use cards with their own switch. These include iCloud sync and Direct Access on phones and tablets.
  • Integrations are collapsible cards with a status dot, including Automation intents (Tasker) on Android. GLANCE app integrations are split by protocol.
  • Sync: each card saves on its own, so encryption, WebDAV and GLANCEvault no longer share one Save button.
  • Direct Access: the card shows its switch even before a folder is connected. Turning the switch on lets you pick the folder.
  • GLANCEvault: turning it off now pauses it and keeps your connection. To remove it, use Disconnect.
  • Auto-Backup is one card on Backup & Restore, with Export, Restore and Reset in a row below it. Backup history appears only when there is something to list.
  • Inbox, Follow-ups and Global Shortcuts are under General.

AI

  • AI features now start switched off, and can't be switched on until your provider has an API key (Ollama doesn't need one).
  • With AI switched on but no key, or with a feature switched off, nothing AI-related appears in the app.

Sync

  • Desktop: sync can go through a proxy server that you set up in Settings. Thanks @youli42.
  • WebDAV: a missing remote file no longer lets the first sync overwrite it. Thanks @youli42.
  • Multi-user counts a Direct Access folder as a shared destination.
  • MCP: edits made by an agent are timestamped when they are written, so sync keeps them.

Undo

  • Undo messages say what was undone, offer a way back, and stay up long enough to read.
  • Undo restores Frames.
  • Cmd/Ctrl+Z inside a text field edits the text instead of undoing a task change.

Fixes and improvements

  • Goals have a notes box, like the Project Planner's.
  • A note linked to a task is read again after a sync and when you return to it.
  • Frame Nudge: the AI button always answers.
  • GLANCE intents: a task meant for another GLANCE app is no longer created in dayGLANCE.
  • JOBO: a completion that ends the last timed session stays comparable. There is also a new JOBO user guide.
  • iPad: disconnecting Obsidian now clears the vault connection.
  • Phones: restoring a backup from its history now asks for confirmation first.

v5.8.1 - Android Hotfix

Choose a tag to compare

@krelltunez krelltunez released this 15 Oct 04:05
704e45d

WebDAV sync on Android works again

dayGLANCE 5.8.1 is an Android-only fix. 5.8.0 for Android was built with an outdated copy of the sync library, which did not wait for Android's network layer to answer, so every WebDAV request looked like an empty response. Desktop, web and iOS stay on 5.8.0.

Android

  • WebDAV sync works again. In 5.8.0, Test Connection reported "Unexpected response: undefined" and sync did nothing. Your data was not affected, and changes you made on Android in the meantime sync after you update.
  • Automatic backups to WebDAV or Nextcloud, and the CalDAV task calendar, failed for the same reason and work again.
  • GLANCEvault, calendar subscriptions and the Obsidian bridge were not affected.

Thanks

  • Cheugreum for the report (#2090).

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 20:29

Sync on iPhone and iPad works again, assistants can manage repeating tasks, and the notes editor keeps its size

dayGLANCE 5.8.0 fixes a 5.7.0 regression that stopped every network request the iOS app makes through its native layer, so GLANCEvault, WebDAV, the Obsidian bridge and calendar subscriptions failed on iPhone and iPad. It also makes the Obsidian bridge refuse to send changes under an unverified key, lets an assistant connected over MCP create and edit repeating tasks, and stops the notes editor shrinking when you click into a long note. If you use dayGLANCE on iPhone or iPad, please update.

iPhone and iPad

  • Sync works again. In 5.7.0, every request the iOS app sends through its native layer was blocked by WebKit before the app could read the answer. GLANCEvault reported that the server "needs to be updated to support this app version", the Obsidian bridge said its stream "could not be read", and WebDAV sync and calendar subscriptions failed. Those requests now travel a path WebKit does not block, and still never hold up the app.
  • Your GLANCEvault token stays out of the console. The failed requests printed their full address, including the GLANCEvault access token, to the Safari Web Inspector console on every retry. That path is gone. If you shared Web Inspector output from 5.7.0, consider issuing a new GLANCEvault token.

Obsidian

  • The bridge only uses a key it has checked. Before sending a change to your vault, opening one from it, or pairing, the bridge now proves its key against your GLANCEvault account, as the main sync already does. A device holding the wrong key keeps its Obsidian changes on the device until the key is right, rather than sending changes no copy of the vault can read. A device whose key changes during a session also stops using the old one at once.

Notes

  • The editor keeps the note's height. Clicking a long note to edit it collapsed the box to a small window, and in compact views it could not be dragged larger. The editor now grows with the note as you open it and as you type, up to 60% of the screen, the same as the preview. Short notes keep their usual minimum. This applies everywhere the notes panel appears.

Assistant integration (MCP, desktop only)

  • Repeating tasks. An assistant can now create a repeating task: daily, weekly or every two weeks on chosen days, monthly on a date or on the nth weekday, or yearly, with an optional end date or number of occurrences. The reply lists the first occurrence and the next five dates, so the assistant can check the pattern against what you asked for.
  • Edit one occurrence or the whole series. A new tool, dayglance_update_recurring_task, asks the same question the app does since 5.7.0: this occurrence, or the series. The title, time, duration, all-day and assignee can change at either scope; notes, project and the pattern are series-only. Completions are never touched.
  • Every change can be undone, including removing a series the assistant created. Deleting a series remains your own step in the app.
  • Reads now describe a repeating task's series and pattern, in the same form the write tools accept. The tools reference is updated.

Thanks

  • youli42 for the request that brought repeating tasks to the assistant integration (#2066) and the notes editor report (#2067).

v5.7.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 02:27

Direct Access sync, clearer recurring edits, and a steadier self-hosted setup

dayGLANCE 5.7.0 adds Direct Access, a new way to sync through a folder that Nextcloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Syncthing or a network share already keeps in step across your devices. Editing one occurrence of a recurring task now asks whether you meant that occurrence or the whole series, and several recurrence and navigation bugs are fixed. A round of fixes from self-hosters makes WebDAV, Nextcloud and GLANCEvault behave on LAN servers, plain HTTP and self-signed certificates. Everything here ships on desktop, Android and iOS unless a section says otherwise.

Direct Access sync

  • Sync through a folder you already sync. Settings > Cloud Sync has a new Direct Access card. Pick a folder that another app keeps in step, and dayGLANCE keeps its data in a single file there. It runs alongside WebDAV, GLANCEvault and iCloud, and needs no account or server of its own. It is not available in the browser.
  • On desktop, including the Mac App Store build, choose the folder with "Choose folder…".
  • On Android, choose the folder through Android's folder picker. Google Drive and Dropbox do not offer their folders there, so use a folder that Syncthing, FolderSync, Autosync or a similar app mirrors to the phone.
  • On iPhone and iPad, choose the sync file itself ("Choose sync file…") or create one ("Create sync file…"), since the Files picker cannot open folders from third-party providers. Works with Nextcloud, Google Drive, Dropbox and iCloud Drive.
  • Optional encryption. "Encrypt the file in the folder" encrypts it with the same passphrase as WebDAV encryption. Once a file is encrypted it stays encrypted on every device; "Remove encryption from the file…" is the one deliberate way back. A device that has the key stops asking for the passphrase at every launch.
  • Conflict copies are cleaned up. Changes made on this device are written at once. A change relayed from another device is passed on only if the folder still lacks it after a short wait, and devices take turns, so Nextcloud and friends make far fewer conflict copies. On desktop and Android, copies they do leave are merged into your data and removed automatically, or on demand from Sync diagnostics.
  • Multi-user and intents. The household roster syncs through the Direct Access folder, so multi-user works with no WebDAV or vault. Settings > Intents has an opt-in "Direct Access intents" option for exchanging tasks with other GLANCE apps through the same folder. With encryption on, those intents are sealed with your sync passphrase, and a device that syncs only through the folder can read them; an intent that arrives before this device has the key waits for it, and the app asks for the passphrase, rather than losing the intent. On iPhone and iPad the roster and events are files you pick, from the Multi-user section and under the intents option.
  • Health counts travel. Direct Access carries habit counts from Health Connect and HealthKit, so steps logged on an Android phone reach your Mac. iCloud still leaves them out, as Apple requires.

Recurring tasks

  • This occurrence, or all of them? Saving a change to one occurrence of a recurring task (its title, time, duration, all-day, colour or assignment) now asks whether it applies to that occurrence or to the whole series. Before, such edits only ever changed the one date. The old assignment-only "Apply to" buttons are gone.
  • Changing the pattern keeps the series' start. Editing a series' pattern could move its start to the 1st of the month, creating past occurrences that showed as overdue. Series already affected are not repaired automatically.
  • Yearly and every-2-weeks anchor on the occurrence you edit. Yearly used to take the series' original date, and every-2-weeks could skip the very occurrence it was picked from.
  • 29 February comes back. A yearly series started on 29 February returns to the 29th in leap years. Before, it stayed on 1 March for good.

Views

  • WEEK and DAY arrows no longer skip time. In rolling WEEK and SCHED, Previous and Next could jump past days. In rolling 24-hour DAY, Back now shows today's calendar day before yesterday. Today shows while the view is paused.
  • The welcome tour stays dismissed after you close it, rather than coming back at every restart.
  • PLANNER's "Send to bottom" works after a quick-add on an Obsidian-linked project, and the banner leaves when nothing is left to move.

Self-hosted sync: WebDAV, Nextcloud and GLANCEvault

  • The sync folder is normalised. A WebDAV, Nextcloud or Koofr folder entered with extra slashes produced 404s and nothing was written. It is cleaned up now, and folders saved earlier are fixed too, auto-backups included.
  • A failed upload is not "Synced". A WebDAV sync whose upload failed no longer updates Last synced or reports success. Changes from the server are still applied.
  • A warning on http:// addresses. The server URL field warns about an unencrypted connection on a LAN address, and more strongly on a public one. It does not stop you saving.
  • Private addresses on desktop. A WebDAV server on a LAN address showed "400 Bad Request". Test Connection now explains why and offers "Allow this address…". The allowed-addresses list sits at the bottom of the form, where WebDAV-only users can see it.
  • LAN servers on Android. Android can reach sync servers on the LAN over plain http:// and over https:// with a self-signed or private-CA certificate installed on the phone. Public http:// is still refused.
  • A slow server no longer freezes the app. On Android, an unreachable sync server could block every tap for minutes at startup. Network requests on Android and iOS now run without holding up the app.
  • GLANCEvault says what went wrong. A local failure is no longer reported as "Network error", Last synced stays visible during an error, and it no longer reads "never" after a clean sync.
  • GLANCEvault and Direct Access encryption on Android. Setting up Direct Access encryption could make GLANCEvault report that the passphrase did not match. The two keys now live in separate Keystore slots.

iCloud and file sync

  • Macs stop rewriting an unchanged iCloud file, and the iPhone no longer waits without limit for an iCloud download. After two minutes it merges into the copy it has, so edits made on the phone are not held up.
  • Deleted tasks stay deleted on a device that was offline for more than 60 days.
  • Newly imported Obsidian tasks reach the iCloud and Direct Access file. Before, only GLANCEvault carried them.
  • Fewer needless writes. Two devices holding equally recent copies now settle on one, a change in order alone is not a write, device-only settings such as the 24-hour clock no longer count as an edit, and neither does the midnight routine rollover.
  • iCloud intents work with WebDAV encryption on. On a Mac or iPhone with WebDAV intents encryption switched on, intents sent through iCloud were encrypted, and the iCloud receivers on other devices refused them. iCloud intents are now always sent unencrypted, as the receivers expect; Apple already encrypts the iCloud container.
  • Calendar file import can no longer overwrite newer edits, apply after Cancel, or bring deleted tasks back through sync. Contributed by Lcub3d.

Sync diagnostics

  • One "Sync diagnostics" panel on every platform, including the web app, naming the device and covering iCloud, Direct Access, GLANCEvault and WebDAV. "Run check" dry-runs the merge and says what would change, names the items on only one side, and shows the vault engine's state.

Languages

  • Android: the in-app language now switches the widgets, the Up Next notification, quick settings tiles and native settings too, and stays in step with Android's per-app language setting. Portuguese is listed as Brazilian and European Portuguese. Android 13 and later. If you chose a language in the app before this update, choose it once more so the home screen follows.
  • iOS: a language change in iOS Settings now applies to the app's screens at the next launch, not only to the widgets.

Experimental: JOBO

JOBO, plan versus actual, stays behind the Experimental switch in Settings and is off by default.

  • Focus sessions are recorded as Do. Each Focus work phase becomes a timed Do entry. A block with one task is attributed to it, and with several you choose. Breaks are not recorded. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • "Make a task" from an unlinked Do, in the Do editor and on its Check entry. The new task opens in the Inbox form with the Do's title, and saving links them.
  • On the phone, a form opened from the Check no longer opens behind the Check sheet or closes by itself.
  • On a portrait tablet, JOBO's hour column lines up with the header and the other views.
  • The JOBO setting's hint says it records what was done, rather than that it will.

Security

  • i18next-http-backend updated for a low-severity advisory. It loads the app's translations, so the fix ships.
  • Build tooling patched for advisories in source-map-js, shell-quote and the MCP test client. Two more build-only advisories with no fix yet (postcss-selector-parser via Tailwind, sprintf-js via electron-builder) are accepted in the audit gate with a review date. None of these ship in the app.

Under the hood

  • More of App.jsx moved into tested modules: the iCloud sync loop (now a transport-driven cycle in @glance-apps/sync 2.1.2), the widget snapshot, the TRMNL push, overdue tasks, recurring occurrence edits and Focus orchestration.

Thanks

  • Lcub3d for recording Focus work in JOBO (#2015), the calendar file import fixes (#2016, reported in #2012) and extracting overdue tasks (#2023).

v5.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Oct 22:55
7a51b98

Notes and subtasks everywhere, a follow-up from every finished task, and an assistant that can manage your goals

dayGLANCE 5.6.0 brings notes and subtasks into the New and Edit Task forms, lets you schedule a follow-up the moment you complete a task, and lets you create a project or pull Inbox tasks into one without leaving what you are doing. The PLANNER gets keyboard note editing and a tidier header, Goals & Projects gets a card size, and a project's or goal's notes now live in its linked Obsidian note. On desktop, the assistant integration (MCP) can now read and write goals, projects, areas and subtasks. JOBO, still experimental, comes to the phone. Everything here ships on desktop, Android and iOS unless a section says otherwise.

Tasks

  • Notes & subtasks in the New and Edit Task forms. Every task's form, on desktop and phone, has a "Notes & subtasks" button that opens the same panel as the sidebars: formatting, Shift+Enter, subtasks, and a linked Obsidian note where the task has one. It starts hidden and remembers your choice on this device; a dot on the button marks a task that has notes or subtasks.
  • Schedule a follow-up task. Completing a task now offers "Schedule follow-up task" in the toast beside Undo, and a completed task's context menu offers it too. The new task opens pre-filled with "Follow up:" and the title, the task's tags and colour, its project, and a link back to the finished task. A follow-up tag can be set in Settings.
  • Links to tasks open a preview. A dayGLANCE task link in a note opens a read-only preview of that task over whatever is open, with "Go to task".
  • Create a project from the task form. The project picker has "New project…": name it, optionally pick a goal, and it is created when the task is saved, so cancelling leaves nothing behind. The colour you pick for the task becomes the new project's colour.
  • A completed task's star is a plain mark. A starred task you finished keeps a filled star as a record; an unstarred one shows nothing, rather than an outline inviting you to star finished work.
  • Toasts stay while you read them. A toast under the pointer or focus stays until you leave it, and the undo toast no longer covers the Refocus timeline buttons.

Projects, goals and the PLANNER

  • Add from Inbox. A project card's header can add Inbox tasks to the project in one go: tick them in a list (a filter appears once there are more than six) and they take the project and its colour. One Undo reverses the lot.
  • New tasks land on top. Quick-add in the PLANNER and on a project card puts the new task at the top of Unscheduled. In the PLANNER, "Send to bottom" is offered for 15 seconds.
  • PLANNER, reorganised. The "Add a task" field sits above the task lists, so it is in reach on a long project. The Scheduled and Completed toggles and a new hyperGLANCE button are in the header. hyperGLANCE's settings open in the notes panel's place on a wide screen, or as their own page on a phone.
  • Keyboard notes in the PLANNER. With the notes sidebar open, E puts the cursor in the selected task's note, and Shift+Enter saves it and hands the keyboard back to the list, so the arrow keys move on at once.
  • Card size for Goals & Projects. Small, Normal, Large or Larger, per device, from the space's toolbar or Settings. Larger cards fit fewer across. The Roadmap's Range buttons move to the same toolbar.
  • hyperGLANCE's switch looks like a switch in its settings, rather than an ON pill that read as a heading.

Obsidian

  • A project's or goal's notes live in its linked note. The notes box in dayGLANCE and the paragraph under the linked note's title are now one thing: dayGLANCE edits that section of the note in place. If the note changed in Obsidian since it was opened, dayGLANCE refuses to overwrite it, reloads the newer text and keeps your unsaved text beneath it. Existing notes boxes move into the note the first time, below the note's own text.
  • Link a note by typing its [[wikilink]] into a project's or goal's title, with or without the bridge plugin. The link leaves the title and the project is linked to that note.
  • A linked note in a folder is found. A project whose note lived in a folder could report "linked note not found" even though Open in Obsidian opened it.
  • "Create a note in Obsidian" needs the bridge plugin, and now says so, with the alternative of linking a note by its [[wikilink]], instead of silently doing nothing.
  • A hint about wikilinks in the task notes panel, where the vault is enabled, no note is linked and the task has no notes of its own yet.
  • Settings preview the daily-note path, and warn when the vault folder and the daily-notes folder setting would nest a second "Daily Notes" folder inside the first.
  • Lighter on GLANCEvault. A live update from the vault no longer fetches the same page twice, and live-triggered syncs on one device are spaced at least 20 seconds apart, so a busy household behind one address is far less likely to hit the vault's rate limit.
  • The bridge plugin is now 0.9.3: it resolves a bare [[Note]] link the way Obsidian does, wherever the note lives, and carries the description section. Update it in each vault.

AI

  • Current models, and a live model list. Google retired every built-in Gemini model, so Gemini features failed with "model not found". The built-in Gemini choices are now the stable 2.5 models (2.5 Flash by default), and Anthropic's are Sonnet 5.5 (recommended), Haiku 4.5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1.
  • Fetch model list in Settings asks the provider for its current models: Anthropic, Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter, custom endpoints and Ollama.
  • Type any model id. The model picker has an "Other" entry with a text field, and a saved id no list knows is shown there rather than silently replaced.
  • The briefing refresh buttons ignore repeat clicks while a briefing is loading, rather than sending parallel requests.

Assistant integration (MCP, desktop only)

  • Goals, projects, areas and subtasks. An assistant can now read and write goals, projects and subtasks, and list areas, following the app's own rules: a new goal takes its area's colour, a project its goal's, and a goal or project completes only when everything under it has. Nothing can be deleted or archived through the assistant; those stay your own steps. Every write can be undone.
  • A linked note's description. For a goal or project linked to an Obsidian note, the assistant reads and writes the description in the note itself, and refuses if the note changed since it was read.
  • More in every read. Assignees, inbox durations, the day's daily note, and the Bucket List. Events from calendar feeds show as read-only, and writes to them are refused.
  • Deadlines and priority on project tasks, as the app allows, and a task id from create_task keeps working after the Obsidian integration re-keys the task.
  • The tools reference is updated, and a new test suite drives the real listener with the official MCP client.

Phones and tablets

  • Back closes what is open. The back gesture now closes the PLANNER, the Bucket List and the task editor, one layer at a time, instead of leaving the app with them still open.
  • Closing MONTH's day sheet stays on Timeline, rather than jumping to the tab you were on before.
  • PLANNER's header toggles get their own row, so the project name is no longer squeezed to a few letters. "hyperGLANCE" is spelled out where the screen is wide enough.

Self-hosted

  • GLANCE integrations work over plain HTTP. A chore sent from lastGLANCE to a dayGLANCE served over HTTP on a local address failed, because browsers only offer the hashing it needs on secure connections. dayGLANCE now provides it itself, producing the same ids as a secure connection.

Experimental: JOBO

JOBO, plan versus actual, stays behind the Experimental switch in Settings and is off by default.

  • JOBO on the phone and portrait tablet. Plan and Do side by side on the timeline: one side wide with full cards, the other a narrow lane of bars at the same times; tap the lane or the divider to swap. A toggle in the date header shows both at half width. Add a Do by tapping an empty slot, edit one by tapping it, with Undo after each change. The Check and Statistics open as sheets. JOBO has its own switch in the phone's App Settings.
  • A plan gives way to its Do only once the task is done. An unfinished task keeps its plan block beside its Do, so what is still owed stays in sight. This changes past days as 5.5.0 showed them.
  • Today splits at the NOW line. In DAY, MULTI, WEEK and MONTH, a completed task's block turns into its Do once the block has ended.
  • The Check reviews the whole plan. A summary line says how many tasks from the day still need a next step, and a Not started group lists planned tasks nothing was recorded against, each with Continue, Move to Inbox (or its project) and Delete, with Undo.
  • Statistics for Day, Week, Month and All time, read-only, from the date header. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • A Do badge on SCHED's cards shows the time recorded against a task, with its sessions and "Open in JOBO". On a finished task its plan history moves into the badge; on a phone the badge is a dot on the title line.
  • A Do card shows its details first in DAY and MULTI, and "Open in JOBO" opens at the Do's time.
  • JOBO draws at MULTI's hour, so a 15-minute card has room for its tags. The Do side's NOW line has its red dot.

Security

  • Two build-only advisories with no fix yet (braces via Tailwind, http-cache-semantics via electron-builder) are accepted in the audit gate, with a review date. Neither ships in the app.

Notes that survive, bigger timelines, and a PLANNER you can read beside

dayGLANCE 5.5.0 keeps your own notes on calendar events through a refresh, lets the scrolling timelines grow, gives the PLANNER a notes sidebar and project tasks their own deadlines, and makes the Obsidian bridge refuse to lose writes. Polish and Ukrainian reach the widgets and notifications. Everything here ships on desktop, Android and iOS unless a section says otherwise.

Notes on calendar events

  • Your note on an event survives a calendar refresh. An event from a calendar feed (ICS or CalDAV) has its description rebuilt from the feed on every refresh, so anything typed into it was lost. The feed's description now shows read-only, and beneath it is your own note, kept on this device where a refresh cannot reach it.
  • The same editor as tasks. Calendar event notes now use the same editor as tasks, with formatting and Shift+Enter, in every view.
  • Events from this device's own calendar are unchanged. Their description is still the event's real notes, edited in place and written back to the device calendar.
  • Backups include the notes.

Timeline size

  • MULTI, WEEK and JOBO can be made bigger. Choose a size from 80% to 150% in Settings (WEEK starts at 100%), per view and per device. Ctrl and the scroll wheel, or a pinch, change it in place, and a small readout shows the level as it changes.
  • The view stays where you were looking. Magnifying holds the point under the pointer still, rather than jumping the scroll.

Projects and the PLANNER

  • A notes sidebar for the selected task, so you can read and edit a task's notes while planning the project around it.
  • Keyboard first. The PLANNER takes keyboard focus as it opens, arrow keys move the selection, and focus returns to it when the editor closes. Enter on a project in the Goals & Projects list opens its PLANNER.
  • Deadlines on unscheduled project tasks. A project card's unscheduled tasks, and the PLANNER's Unscheduled column, get the same deadline button as the Inbox. A deadline puts the task on the timeline on its due date, as an Inbox deadline does.

SCHED

  • Larger text and tap targets on task cards.

Obsidian

  • The bridge never deletes a change it cannot read. A desktop still holding an old pairing after a re-pair elsewhere could delete changes made on your other devices without saying anything. Plugin 0.9.2 holds such a change instead, says so, and stands down until it is paired again.
  • Every device can see every copy of the vault. The bridge panels now list "Copies of this vault", with the plugin version and pairing each one holds, and a red line naming any copy that has fallen behind.
  • A delivery check. If changes this device sent are still waiting while a copy is busy applying, the device now reports that copy is not applying them, rather than reading "Synced".
  • No more "can't reach your vault" message without Obsidian. It appeared when the app came back to the foreground, even with Obsidian sync switched off.
  • The bridge plugin is now 0.9.2. Update it in each vault.

Everywhere

  • The app keeps your view across the midnight reload. A view left open overnight used to wake up in the default view.
  • Messages about a clash name the event. Postpone's refusal always said "a calendar event", and the notice after a task slides past an event read "undefined". Both now name it.
  • Settings' view pickers wrap instead of running into the next column.
  • Android launcher shortcuts fit. The labels shown on a long press of the app icon were cut short with an ellipsis. The English ones now fit, and the rest are tracked.

Languages

  • Polish and Ukrainian on the home screen. The widgets, notifications and share targets on Android and iOS are now translated, completing what 5.4.0 began.
  • Simplified Chinese in the iOS widgets and system strings, contributed by Lcub3d.

Experimental: JOBO

JOBO, plan versus actual, stays behind the Experimental switch in Settings and is off by default.

  • Past days show what was done. In DAY, MULTI and WEEK, a past day shows each task's recorded Do in place of its plan block, as striped cards in the task's colour. MONTH's bars follow the Do. Tasks with nothing recorded show as they were planned, so older days do not go blank.
  • The Check. A journal of the day behind a button in the JOBO view: each piece of work in order, its plan against what happened, every session and its progress. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • Continue and Add follow-up. Each Check entry offers the next step. Continue moves an unfinished task to tomorrow at its planned time with the time that was left, in one click with Undo. Add follow-up opens a new task from a finished one, in the same project with its tags and colour, unscheduled.
  • Day statistics beside the date. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • Undo and redo for Do edits, in the app's one history, and Complete task from the Do editor. Restoring a completed Do no longer creates a duplicate, contributed by Lcub3d.
  • A wider notes sidebar, where the Daily Note can be edited in place and a button puts the split between it and the task's notes back where it started.
  • Refocus timeline as in MULTI, "Finished later" on a Partial that was completed afterwards, #tag suggestions when adding unlinked work, and clearer labels throughout.
  • With several users, each sees only their own Do.

Security

  • Electron 43.7.5 on desktop, for four advisories.
  • hono, used by the assistant integration, patched for GHSA-hxh3-vqpv-xpqv.
  • Build tooling patched for advisories in undici, brace-expansion and fast-uri. None of these ship in the app.

Under the hood

  • The test suite runs in UTC wherever it runs. A sunrise test passed on CI and failed for contributors in other time zones, with nothing to suggest why.
  • Locale checks catch more. A string left in English inside a translated bundle now fails the suite, and so does a key written twice, which would silently replace the original string everywhere it is used. Two JOBO strings nothing displayed were removed before anyone was asked to translate them.
  • 5.4.2 was tagged but never published, and is skipped rather than reused.

Thanks

  • Lcub3d for the Check (#1882) and its contrast and date fixes (#1895), JOBO's day statistics (#1868), restoring completed Do without duplicates (#1867), and Simplified Chinese in the iOS catalogs (#1872).
  • polymatheiia for Polish and Ukrainian on Android (#1888) and iOS (#1889).

v5.4.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Sep 01:09

Obsidian (desktop and web): dayGLANCE now tells you when it can't reach your vault on this device, with a red indicator in the header and Settings, instead of silently failing while showing as connected. A new Change Vault button re-selects the vault folder without disconnecting. If your browser doesn't keep folder access between launches, you'll now see this once at startup; press Sync Now to allow access again.

Sync: more reliable when the app is closed partway through syncing.

JOBO (experimental): a late completion is drawn from its planned start, and an estimate can be kept in one click.

New widgets and languages, and a new Goals & Projects workspace

dayGLANCE 5.4.0 brings the Day Dial to the Android home screen, at parity with the iPhone widget that shipped in 5.3.0. The dial also learns to draw your GTD Frames, on every platform and in the app. MONTH gets home-screen widgets on both phones, Ukrainian and Polish join the app's languages, and Goals & Projects becomes a space of its own on desktop rather than a modal over the calendar. Everything here ships on desktop, Android and iOS unless a section says otherwise.

Day Dial on Android

  • The same dial, not a lookalike. The Android widget draws from the same snapshot fields as the iPhone one and is held to the same exported geometry vectors, so the two faces cannot drift. The hub states, the block band, the sky ring and the needle all come across.
  • A needle that moves by the minute. Its own minute tick, exact where the system grants it and windowed where it does not, and skipped entirely while the screen is off. Each tick compares the face key: the same key sends a partial update for the needle and the live row, and only a real change (a block boundary, a new day, a push, a resize) redraws the face.
  • Wired into every refresh path the other widgets use: a push from the app, midnight, a time-zone or clock change, the background worker and boot.
  • This reverses the "no Android dial" decision recorded on 22 September. The spike that changed it, and what it measured, are in the handoff doc.

Frames on the dial

  • Your GTD Frames are drawn on the face, as enclosures around the blocks that sit inside them, in the app and on both widgets. Nesting is resolved by containment and capped at one level, so a busy day stays readable.
  • The hub names the frame you are in and how much free time is left in it.
  • A Frames percentage joins the day's totals: framed block minutes against the time your top-level frames cover.
  • Frames arrive in their own colours. Every frame in the widget sections used to fall back to blue.
  • The frame geometry is stated once, in the shared vectors, and ported to both the Swift and Kotlin dials alongside the web one.

Day Dial on iPad

  • An extra-large size, split down the middle: the dial on one side, the All Day and legend cards on the other, on black rather than the system's gradient. The cards scale with the placement and let long titles use the row.

MONTH on the home screen

  • iOS gets a Month widget in large and extra large. The extra-large one adds the day's agenda beside the grid.
  • Android gets two: the month grid, and the grid with an agenda beside or below it depending on the shape you give it.
  • They know their own dates. Each runs its own device-calendar fetch over the six-week window the grid draws, rather than borrowing the app's, and carries a dated "Planned as of" so a projected day says so.
  • Paging and today. Chevron arrows move a month at a time, with targets big enough to hit, and a Today button returns.
  • Tap through to the day. Tapping opens MONTH on that day, with the day's sheet in the same render, and on a phone the timeline tab comes forward with it.
  • Both follow the system light and dark appearance, with no lag on a theme switch.

Ukrainian and Polish

  • Ten languages. Ukrainian and Polish join the app, including the plural forms Slavic grammar needs rather than an English shape with the words swapped.
  • Selectable on Android, whatever the phone's own language is. The app's text follows; the widgets and notifications are still English and will follow.
  • AI answers now follow the app's language. Every prompt is written in English, so a Chinese Evening Reflection card could contain an English reflection. The briefing caches record the language they were written in, so switching at noon regenerates instead of serving the morning's text.
  • Dates, durations and speech recognition all route through the app's language rather than each surface deciding for itself, with one duration formatter behind the lot.
  • The plural-coverage test now derives its scope from each language's own rules instead of a hardcoded list, which caught real gaps in languages nobody had thought to check.

Goals & Projects, as a space

  • No longer a modal over the calendar. A switcher at the far left of the header swaps the sidebar and main area between the Calendar space and Goals & Projects, and g toggles from either side.
  • A real desktop layout: a Goals and Projects sidebar with an area filter, goal rows that accept a dropped project, a List and Roadmap toolbar, the selected goal's card with connector lines to its projects, and a "Move to..." picker.
  • The calendar keeps its place. It stays mounted behind the space, so scroll position survives a round trip.
  • The phone's Goals tab follows the same design, with tighter controls, smoother goal swipes, a Filter button in the Projects row and one way to clear it.
  • One Stalled rule. Five surfaces each applied it with their own extra conditions and disagreed with each other; they now share one gate. The Weekly Review keeps the raw rule on purpose, since it is the momentum report.
  • Inbox actions become buttons you can reach. The filter buttons are on desktop and tablet as well as the phone, the phone's Inbox actions are floating buttons, and the GLANCE Goals pill is gone.

Widgets everywhere

  • Real previews in the Android picker for Today, Up Next, Project, Goal and both Month widgets, instead of a generic tile.
  • The pickers only offer what the app shows. Projects left linked to an archived or deleted goal were listed although no screen in the app shows them. Completed projects are hidden from the pickers, while a widget already pinned to one still shows it as done.
  • Rows open the thing they name. A task row its task, a goal row the goal, a hyperGLANCE row its project, and a Month agenda row on another day that day in MONTH.
  • The project widget lists tasks in the app's order, and that order now holds across devices.
  • The next alarm set in your clock app appears on the dial and in GLANCEahead (Android). Any app can register an alarm clock, so a calendar's event alarm used to show up as your wake-up time; only alarms from a known clock app count now.

Everywhere

  • A fragment inside a web address is no longer read as a tag. A URL ending in #section turned the rest into a tag.
  • Android deep links are no longer dropped when their slashes arrive escaped.
  • TRMNL pushes fit the service's real limit. The cap was 5 kB rather than the 2 kB the code assumed, and a full day crosses it at 21 tasks in Ukrainian against 33 in English. The payload now drops schedule rows until it fits, completed first, then past, then the furthest ahead, so the next thing due is the last to go, and a refused push says why.
  • MCP create_task inherits the project's colour and assigned users, so a task an assistant files into a project looks like one made in the app.

Experimental

  • JOBO, plan versus actual, is now a working Plan and Do view rather than the groundwork it was in 5.3.0: the plan on one side, what actually happened on the other, drawn on the app's own timeline. It remains behind the Experimental switch in Settings, off by default, and work on it continues.
  • Aspire is switched on the same way and is still a placeholder.

Under the hood

  • An unloaded ledger no longer looks like a deletion. The push diff read a collection missing from the payload the same as an empty one, so JOBO rows in the saved snapshot became vanish-deletes on every launch, costing a wall of guard warnings and a re-fetch per row. An absent kind is now carried forward; an explicit empty list still means empty.
  • A sync killed mid-pull no longer strands rows. The pull cursor is rewound whenever a cycle fails, because the rows that cycle applied were written only to a per-cycle copy that a failure throws away. That covered an error, but not the app's process being killed outright, which Android does on backgrounding and under memory pressure and a desktop does not. The cursor stayed advanced past pages that were never committed, and those rows sat below it permanently: a device quietly missing a handful of edits while everything later synced normally, with nothing to show for it. The cursor is now recorded before each pull and rewound on the next launch if that cycle never finished. It only ever rewinds, and re-reading rows the device already holds changes nothing.
  • Four surfaces now have to agree about which languages exist: the web bundles, Android's language list, its string resources and the iOS catalogs. A new parity test forces a shipped language to be either localized natively or recorded as pending with a reason, which is how the Android and iOS gaps above came to be written down rather than discovered.
  • The Obsidian bridge plugin is unchanged and stays at 0.9.1.

Thanks

  • polymatheiia for Ukrainian and Polish, and for the i18n work underneath them: one duration formatter in place of the hand-rolled ones, dates and speech recognition routed through the app's language, and the plural-coverage test rebuilt to derive its own scope. A first contribution, and a substantial one.
  • Lcub3d for JOBO: the core records and their tests, and the Plan and Do view in #1840.
