An apology
[edit]Hello! I'm a member of the AFI team and I'm contacting you regarding the article you had nominated back in 2023, Louisville Cardinals football. We originally removed it in an attempt to re-adapt the AFI project based on the result of the RfC, but we did not contact each nominator and we did not have a formal process for demoting articles. Since you said that this action unfortunately makes me lose all interest in any further participation in AFI
, we decided we needed to find a better way to handle these cases.
I'm happy to say that after an extensive discussion, yesterday the reviewing instructions have finally been amended to be able to withstand the influx of new AFI participants following its addition to the Main Page. They are now much more rigorous (for example, nominations cannot be closed before a set number of days, and all nominations must reach a quorum), and any approved nomination on the list, whether new or old, can no longer be removed without a formal discussion and any attempts to do so will be reverted.
Among these changes, there is now the option to re-nominate articles that were approved but then removed in our initial cleanup. Those discussions will be subject to the same exact criteria used to approve new articles, with a disclosure about its past nominations. If you want, you can now formally force AFI to seriously consider the specific article you nominated (the practical instructions are being updated, ask me in the meantime); personally, I think it's likely that it will not succeed due to the new criteria and scope of AFI, but you can nevertheless renominate it to have a formal closure.
Now that the process is more settled and less subject to our "whims", you are more than welcome to rejoin AFI! FaviFake (talk) 21:55, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
Louisville metropolitan area
[edit]G'day from Oz; in my defence, the inaccuracy was already in the article - I just rearranged the existing text to keep the Bluelink without it being in Bold (diff). Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 08:32, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- I wasn't really hard-blaming there (as I realize not many editors know the Louisville metro area), just noting how the changes made the inaccuracy stand out more. I checked and that inaccuracy was introduced in early 2021. I'm kind of mad at myself for not noticing that before. Sometimes bad copy in some of our articles has a life of its own. What's good is it's fixed now. Cheers! the Stefen đower 08:44, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, I definitely am among those who donât know much about Louisville - other than there being a baseball bat and a line of Ford trucks named after the place. As far as I know, the closest Iâve got to there is the Chevrolet Corvette factory and museum in Bowling Green on a road trip from Nashville back in â07.
- I am continually surprised by how long defects sometimes remain in WP articles; I have found on several occasions defects that have survived for years - in one case a factual error that existed for nineteen years. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 21:58, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

Weekly highlight
- Many Wikimedia tools were taken offline last week because of a security vulnerability in PHP. This affected many websites worldwide. Toolforge and Cloud VPS have been back up since October 22. Many important tools have been gradually restored. Some tools need the respective volunteer maintainers to restart them. Others still need to upgrade to a patched PHP version. Some tools were using older versions of PHP which are not supported by the recent security patches. They will require maintainers to upgrade to a more recent version. This might require additional effort. You can follow the work on Wikitech.
Updates for editors
- A new optional search experiment is running in the Wikipedia Android and iOS apps for Arabic, French, and Japanese Wikipedias. Participating readers can search inside articles and open quoted passages directly in their source articles, no answers or summaries are generated. This is the first of four experiments in Phase 2 of Semantic Search. It began on October 22 and runs for 20 days. Feedback is welcome on the projectâs discussion page.
- The Future Audiences team is planning to bring Share Cards to Wikipedia on mobile. This feature gives users the option to share a visually appealing card with friends, based on the article they are reading. The card contains the articleâs title, image, opening text, and related attribution, and links back to the article for full reading. Editors are invited to try out this feature by adding
?useformat=mobile&sharecard=1to any article URL from October 29 to November 8. Share any thoughts on the project talk page and report any bugs on Phabricator. - The default renderer for math formulas will change on November 2. After the change, the server sends the formula as MathML, and your browser uses MathJax to show it. This is the last step towards the Mathoid/RESTBase deprecation process, for sustainability and security reasons. You can ask questions or report problems.
- Do you have an idea for a new feature, or a bug that needs fixing? Submit your suggestion for the community wish list by November 8!
