We Built an AI Agent to Fight Medicine Stockouts Before They Happen | hackCBS 9.O
A medicine running out at the wrong time is not just an inventory problem.
It can delay treatment, create unnecessary pressure on healthcare workers, and impact people who depend on timely access to essential medicines.
But behind every stockout is usually the same challenge: someone noticed the problem too late.
During hackCBS 9.O, we asked ourselves:
What if inventory systems could predict these problems before they happen?
That question led us to build MediFlow.
A quick walkthrough of MediFlow, from identifying supply risks to enabling safer medicine redistribution.
The Idea
Most inventory systems today are reactive. They tell you what is missing after it becomes a problem.
We wanted to build something proactive.
MediFlow is an AI-powered inventory intelligence system designed to help pharmacies and healthcare organizations identify potential stock shortages, detect expiry risks, and make smarter inventory decisions before problems occur.
The goal was simple:
Move from reacting to stockouts → predicting and preventing them.
How MediFlow Works
Instead of creating a simple dashboard with static information, we built an intelligent workflow where AI agents collaborate to analyze inventory situations.
MediFlow can:
→ Analyze medicine inventory patterns
→ Identify medicines at risk of running out
→ Detect possible expiry issues
→ Generate actionable recommendations
→ Assist users in making faster decisions
Think of it as having an AI inventory analyst that continuously monitors your medicines and highlights what needs attention.
Building It During a Hackathon
The exciting part of hackathons is that ideas quickly turn into reality, but the journey is never smooth.
While building MediFlow, we faced challenges like connecting different components, designing reliable AI workflows, handling unexpected errors, and constantly improving the user experience within a limited timeframe.
There were moments where things broke, outputs were not what we expected, and debugging became the main task.
But those moments are where the real learning happened.
Every fix pushed the project closer to something that could actually help someone.
What Made This Special
For us, MediFlow was not just about adding AI to a project.
It was about using AI where it can create real impact.
A system that does not just display data, but understands it.
A system that does not wait for failures, but helps prevent them.
Lessons From hackCBS 9.O
This hackathon reminded us that great projects are not built only with technology.
They are built by understanding real problems, iterating quickly, and having the mindset to keep improving even when things break.
We came in with an idea.
We left with a working prototype, new learnings, and a stronger belief in building technology that solves meaningful problems.
MediFlow is only the beginning.
The next step is making it smarter, more reliable, and closer to real-world adoption.
